A belt might be one of the smallest pieces in your closet, but it can also be the loudest part of your outfit, the quietest or the backbone of the outfit.
When something feels missing you typically reach for a belt and it usually grounds everything together.
Let's say you add it to one of your favorite jeans and suddenly the outfit finally feels finished. Or you've cinched one over a dress and you've created a completely different silhouette, that gives you less of that boxy look.
Pair one with tailored trousers and a simple blouse and now you feel like walking to the beat of your music and radiating main character energy.
To get these moments, the key is choosing an everyday belt that can actually keep up with your wardrobe and is able to make those moments happen.
For us, that means full-grain leather, versatile colors and bonus points, reversible.
Here's how to style everyday belts for women without overthinking it.
What to Look for in an Everyday Leather Belt
Before we get into styling, let's talk about the belt itself.
If you're going to wear something regularly, quality matters. Full-grain leather is a great choice for everyday wear because it develops character over time rather than simply looking worn out. Lower-quality alternatives tend to do the opposite. They can crack, peel and often have that distinct plastic-like shine that gives away the quality before you've even worn them.
And then there's versatility.
Your everyday belt shouldn't only work with one pair of jeans or one color of shoes. In that case, it wouldn't really be an everyday belt.
Black and brown are staples for a reason, but a reversible belt gives you the opportunity to have that staple on one side and something with a little more depth on the other. Take it one step further with high-quality leather on both sides and you get a belt with character either way you wear it: something fun but still versatile on one side and classic black patent on the other.
That's also why I chose gold for the opposite side. I firmly believe gold is a new neutral. It works easily with almost every colour and isn't so in-your-face that it makes an outfit feel busy. But that subtle shimmer gives an otherwise simple outfit just enough depth and attention.
Look for classic shades that complement the clothes already hanging in your closet.
Also two belts and only one spot in the closet.

The Do's of Styling Everyday Belts
DO: Use Your Belt to Pull an Outfit Together
Your belt doesn't necessarily need to perfectly match your shoes or handbag but it is definitely a great styling touch.
Think a match like the patent black leather belt with the black crossbody and our smooth jet black shoes. It will tie everything together and feel very intentional. This is a tip I love for an office look because it's clean and polished.
I also love the snake gold side with the gold crossbody or peep toes. Even though the texture differs here, the notes of gold in each blend the outfit together.
When the accessories work together the outfit feels more complete. It's really obvious when an accessory looks out of place. Like a statement long necklace on a high neck top. Or a really busy bag with a really busy outfit. Having that balance is easy on the eyes and it's an easy styling tip to pull together the simplest of outfits.
DO: Belt More Than Your Jeans
We love jeans and a belt, it's a classic but we're not stopping there.
Try adding a leather belt to:
- Wide-leg trousers
- A midi skirt
- A shirt dress
- An oversized blazer
- A cardigan
- High-waisted shorts
This is where a belt goes from something functional to one of your most useful fashion accessories.
A simple outfit you've worn a dozen times can feel completely different just by defining the waist.
DO: Play With Placement
The rise of your pants, the shape of your dress and the width of your belt all affect how an outfit looks.
With high-waisted trousers, let the belt sit naturally at your waist; this also adds a visual element to a classic pair of pants or denim.
With a looser dress or blazer, a belt can help create a bit more shape.
And with jeans? Sometimes all you need is a simple tee, leather belt and a great pair of shoes. I love pairing jeans and a belt with a top that just hits the top of my jeans, that way the belt peaks out.
DO: Let a Reversible Belt Do More
This might be our favorite trick and it's the perfect travel hack.
If you're building a smaller, more versatile wardrobe, a women's reversible belt gives you options without giving you more stuff and it takes up only one stop.
One side can complement your lighter, warmer outfits. Flip it over when you're wearing darker colors.
Monday's cream trousers don't need the same belt as Saturday's black denim, even if technically, they do.
When packing, think of the Sudoku method. The Sudoku packing method is built around choosing nine pieces that can create up to 27 different outfits. You lay them out like a Sudoku board, with three tops, three bottoms and three layers. Across, down and diagonally, the pieces should work together. Basically, you're choosing nine pieces that can constantly be mixed and matched.
But you don't need 27 different sets of accessories to make those outfits feel complete, you don't even need three or two. One reversible belt can work across the entire grid. With a reversible belt, you can keep the black side classic with some combinations, then flip it to gold when another outfit needs a little more interest. It's one accessory that can work with all 27 outfits while still giving you two completely different ways to style them.
The Don'ts of Styling Everyday Belts
DON'T: Make Everything the Statement
We love a statement but we just don't need six of them at once.
If you're wearing bold trousers, a patterned blouse and statement shoes, your belt can quietly do its job. This is also the perfect time to match your belt to your handbag or to your shoes, it quietly ties in the rest of the look.
On the other hand, if you're wearing jeans and a simple knit, a beautiful leather belt has room to become part of the look. This is why each side has texture to it, each one has the opportunity to stand out.
I'm a big believer that best statement belts don't necessarily have to be covered in embellishments. Sometimes beautiful leather, a great buckle and intentional contrast are enough.
DON'T: Ignore Belt Width
Not every belt works with every belt loop.
Before falling in love with a style, check the width against the trousers and jeans you wear most often.
A streamlined leather belt is usually one of the easiest belt styles to move between denim, trousers and dresses, making it particularly useful for everyday wear.
DON'T: Buy for One Outfit
You know the belt, it looks incredible with that one dress. And then it sits in your closet for the next three years.
For everyday accessories, versatility wins.
Before buying, think of at least three outfits you'd wear it with. Better yet, think about whether you could style it for work, weekends and dinner.
If the answer is yes, you've probably found a keeper. The beauty of a reversible belt with two versatile sides if you can find three outfits that work and then about 20 more. With a high quality leather like Womads, each side will carry a ton of depth so that there is always a visual interest. The classic black will work in the background if needed, or it can be a topic of conversation. The gold snake skin side is versatile enough to act as a neutral but it will always be a topic of conversation since the pattern and color are not your standard black and brown neutral.
How to Style a Belt for Work, Weekend and Everything In Between
This is where a great leather belt earns its place in your wardrobe.
For the office: Try tailored trousers, a tucked-in silk blouse, leather belt and Oxfords. Add a blazer if you want another layer.
For the weekend: Straight-leg jeans, a knit or white tee, leather belt and sneakers or Oxfords. Easy.
For dinner: Add a belt to a midi dress or high-waisted trousers with a fitted knit. Finish with your favorite shoes and jewellery.
For travel: This is where reversible belts really shine. Pack one belt and you've instantly got two color options to work with the rest of your travel wardrobe.
Less packing. More outfits.
The Case for a Reversible Everyday Belt
We talk a lot about buying pieces you'll actually wear.
A reversible belt fits right into that philosophy.
The Womads Reversible Leather Belt is made from full-grain leather and designed to give you two styling options in one piece. Instead of choosing a belt that works with one small corner of your wardrobe, you can flip between colors depending on what you're wearing.
It's the kind of piece that doesn't need to be the centre of your outfit to make the whole outfit better.
And that's exactly what we want from an everyday accessory.
The Best Belt Styling Rule
There are plenty of do's and don'ts when it comes to styling everyday belts for women.
But they're guidelines, not laws.
Mix your browns. Wear black with color. Belt the oversized blazer. Add one to the jeans you've worn 100 times. Flip your reversible belt and see which side looks better.
The best stylish belts aren't the ones you save for the perfect outfit.
They're the ones you keep reaching for.
