The Best Dance Shoes for Women: Comfort, Style & Versatility

There is a moment at almost every wedding, vacation, birthday party or summer concert when someone says, "Come dance."

Sometimes you hesitate because of your shoes.

Not because you don't want to dance, but because you already know what will happen. A few songs in, your feet will start aching, you'll look for a chair, and the night that was supposed to feel carefree suddenly becomes something you're just trying to survive.

We've all bought the beautiful shoes that completed the outfit, only to spend the rest of the evening wishing we'd packed something more comfortable.

And I bet that pair is still sitting in your closet.

I've always loved dancing and the carefree energy that comes with it. It reminds me of girlhood, of laughing with friends, letting go, and feeling like everything is going to be okay.

And one thing I firmly believe is that the best dance shoes aren't made for one evening.

They're comfortable enough to dance for hours, beautiful enough for special occasions, and versatile enough to wear with your favourite jeans the next morning.

That's exactly how we think about every pair we create at Womads.

Reason One: A Dance Shoe Should Let You Forget About Your Feet

When you're dancing, you're not thinking about the construction of your shoes. You're thinking about the music, the people around you, and the feeling of being fully in the moment.

So we think about the construction of your shoe and we think of every little detail so you don't have to.

When I started designing Womads, I knew I didn't want to create shoes that felt stiff or restrictive. Our flexible rubber soles allow your feet to move naturally while still giving you the support and stability you need to dance comfortably for hours.

Our Peep Toe Sandals aren't designed to tell your foot how to move — rather they support every movement your foot naturally makes.

Although if you do need a bit of arch support while also enjoying the flexibility of Womads, we just launched our gel arch inserts. The sole within our peep toes already has light padding to offer comfort while also retaining the lightness of the shoe — so when we created our gel inserts we knew they had to work in harmony with that.

Reason Two: The Breathability of Leather

On a crowded dance floor, every little detail matters.

Heat builds quickly, you're constantly moving, and shoes that felt comfortable when you first put them on can suddenly start rubbing or feeling stiff.

That's one of the reasons we continue to use premium full-grain Colombian leather.

Unlike many synthetic materials, leather softens over time and gradually molds to your feet. Instead of forcing your feet into a rigid shape, it works with your natural movement.

It also offers benefits that make a real difference when you're dancing:

  • Better breathability than many synthetic materials
  • Long-lasting durability
  • A beautiful finish that works for casual and formal occasions
  • Comfort that improves the more you wear them

The longer you own a quality leather shoe, the better it becomes.

Reason Three: Womads Are Secure

There's something freeing about not thinking about your shoes.

When your feet feel secure, your body moves differently — and you stay for one more, or maybe four more songs.

You say yes when someone pulls you onto the dance floor and you stop worrying about slipping, rubbing, or straps digging into your feet, and instead focus on the people you're with and the memories you're making.

That's why our peep toes feature a durable rubber sole for dependable traction, a supportive heel backing, and a soft Italian elastic band that gently hugs your foot without pinching.

If you want to know more about the benefits of rubber soles, we wrote a whole blog on them which you can read here.

We're not trying to create technical ballroom shoes.

We're creating shoes you'll actually live in — and love dancing in.

Designed for Weddings and Everything After

Wedding season often sends people searching for the perfect dance shoes.

But here's the question we always ask ourselves: Will you wear them again?

If the answer is no, they're probably not the right investment.

A beautifully crafted leather shoe should become part of your wardrobe long after the wedding photos are taken.

Wear them to:

  • Wedding receptions
  • Bridal showers
  • Anniversary dinners
  • Date nights
  • Vacation evenings
  • Holiday parties
  • Outdoor celebrations
  • Weekend brunches

The more ways you can wear something, the more valuable it becomes. And if this is you, we have a bridesmaid shoe guide and a mother of the bride guide that you can look into!

Why We Love Our Peep Toes for Dancing

If we had to recommend one Womads style for dancing, it would be our Peep Toes.

Not because they're technically "dance shoes," but because they embody everything we believe great footwear should be.

They're handcrafted from premium Colombian leather, lightweight enough to wear for hours, breathable for warm evenings, and finished with a durable rubber sole that offers confidence.

They're easy to slip on when you're heading out the door, comfortable enough to wear throughout the evening, and versatile enough to pair with almost anything in your closet.

Most importantly, they don't become "occasion shoes" — they become your favorite shoes.

Dance More and Buy Less

The best memories rarely come from the shoes themselves. They come from the moments you wear them.

The spontaneous dance at a wedding.

The live music you stumbled upon while travelling.

The birthday celebration that lasted longer than expected.

The patio dinner that turned into an evening of dancing with friends.

Those are the moments your shoes should support — not interrupt.

Because the best dance shoes aren't made for one night.

They're made for every adventure that follows.
